Colonic Hydrotherapy
Colon hydrotherapy is the gentle introduction of warm filtered water into the colon, this is carefully controlled along with a gentle abdominal massage to assist the natural colonic processes that expel the faecal matter including hardened deposits via a pipe along with the water. This is a hygienic therapy using sterile and disposable equipment.
The therapy takes place in a private treatment room and your privacy will be assured at all times.

The therapy works by encouraging the natural function of the colon (there is no suction) it can help the functional rehabilitation of the colon and can be useful in helping conditions such as: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Constipation, Diarrhoea, Spastic Colon and Atonic Colon.
Removal of lingering waste and gas from the intestines can also help other problems like: Indigestion, Flatulence, Bloating, Parasites, Candida and Diverticulosis (if not inflamed).

Your Colonic Hydrotherapy appointment
Your appointment will last up to 1 hour but you will need to complete a consultation and consent form beforehand (so please arrive 15 mins before your appointment). The therapist will discuss your medical history and any possible contradictions that may mean you are not suitable for the therapy at this time. Once the consultation is completed the therapy will begin.

Circumstances in which colonic treatments cannot be performed are:
- Active infections
- Active inflammations (such as diverticulitis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis)
- Painful fissures
- Painful haemorrhoids
- Congestive heart disease
- Severe uncontrolled hypertension (blood pressure)
- Severe anaemia
- Liver cirrhosis
- Severe liver disease
- Kidney disease
- Severe haemorrhaging
- Colon-rectal carcinoma
- Severe abdominal or inguinal hernias
- First three months of pregnancy
- During complicated pregnancies
- Renal insufficiency/dialysis
- Cancer of the colon or rectum
- Active IBS (Irritable Bowel Disease)
- Recent colon, bowel or rectal surgery
- Fistulas
Circumstances in which colonic treatments can potentially be performed, with the approval of the Skin Oasis therapist only.
- Pace maker
- Pregnancy
- Diverticulosis
- IBD in remission (Irritable Bowel Disease)
- Controlled hypertension (Blood pressure)
- Post op/surgery (please provide a letter from surgery)
- Long term steroid use
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you treat anyone less than 18 years of age?
Unfortunately we are only able to treat patients over the age of 18.
Is colonic hydrotherapy safe?
Yes, it has been use for many 100s of years all over the world (even the Egyptians used it).
Skin Oasis only have skilled and experienced therapists providing this therapy.
Can I leave the clinic straight after my appointment?
Yes but we recommend especially for the first time that you relax and have some water for 15 minutes before you leave.
How many appointments are needed?
Anything from one or two treatments to a course of a 5 treatments may be recommended over a period of time and then continued afterwards for maintenance every few months.

Is the therapy uncomfortable or painful?
No this is very rare and the more relaxed you are the more comfortable it is. Most people are pleasantly surprised by how easy the therapy is.
What happens during the therapy?
A small tube is inserted gently into your rectum aided by lubricant. The treatment will start with you lying on your side then moved to lying on your back. Our practitioner will gently massage your abdomen to aid the removal of waste matter.
The therapy takes about 30 to 45 minutes, the therapist will explain everything whilst it is happening.
